The Winslow Bulldogs are a senior dominated team this season, with nine seniors on the 13-man roster, three juniors and a sophomore. The team was to play its first game under new Coach Scott Corum on Wednesday against Chinle in the Tournament of Champions. Their next game will be played today (Nov. 27) against an opponent determined by first round results.
The regular season games for the Bulldogs begin on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Flagstaff, where they will meet the Eagles. Their first home game will be on Tuesday, Dec. 8, against Estrella Foothills. The Winslow girls will be playing Estrella Foothills at Goodyear that day.
The Bulldogs will host Blue Ridge on Monday, Dec. 14, while the girls are playing Coconino. The Bulldogs will be at Mingus High School in Cottonwood on Wednesday, Dec. 16, and the girls will also be playing in Cottonwood.
Winslow is at Poston Butte on Friday, Dec. 18, while the girls are hosting the Winslow Winter Classic Tournament. That will be their last game of the 2015 portion of the schedule.
The team includes seniors Dalvin Benally, Kuster Kinlicheenie, Rory Billie, Martin Brinkley, Thurman Tso, Akeem Foster, Nathen Hanley, Rey Velez and Mark Faust, juniors Jalen Tapaha and Avondrae Yellowhair, and sophomore Ricardo Villanueva.
The Bulldogs finished last season 22-9 under former Coach Rickie Greer. The Bulldogs got to the second round of the state tournament. Many of the seniors on this team were members of that squad.
Of particular note was the transfer of junior Nathan Hollins from a highly rated Shadow Mountain High School team. The Matadors have been known as a top quality basketball school, and Hollins has a reputation as a talented player who should help the Bulldogs.
