With football season now over in Snowflake, Lobo basketball fans can begin looking toward the gym.
The Lobos will begin defense of last year’s state title with their first game on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in Payson. Their schedule then has them playing in back-to-back tournaments. Dec. 3-5 they will be in Sedona for at least five or six games. The following weekend they travel to Flagstaff to play in the Pepsi tournament.
For the football players just getting to practice on Nov. 23, the slew of games in the first two weeks of December will quickly bring them up to speed for Coach Andy Wood’s title defense. The boys won’t play at home until Dec. 15 when they host Blue Ridge. Last season the Lobos had a tremendous year, posting a 29-3 record and bringing home the state crown with a win over Combs in the title game.
The Lady Lobos also open the season on the road at Payson on Dec. 1. Two days later they travel to Central, then will return home on Dec. 4 for their first home game of the season when they host Higley. They will then play in the Sedona tournament slated Dec. 10-12.
Last season Don Godfrey’s team went 17-14 and reached the second round of the state tournament before falling to Safford in overtime.
