Duane Martineau passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Silver Creek Mortuary Chapel, located at 745 Paper Mill Road in Taylor, and from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Snowflake Stake Center, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.
Dad was born June 29, 1927, in Colonia Chuichupa, Mexico. He was the ninth child of 14 children born to Charles Henry Martineau and Florence Whetten Martineau.
He lived in the Snowflake area for close to 50 years.
He worked much of his life as a talented tile setter, leaving memories of his craftsmanship in the homes of his children. After he retired from working about 21 years at the Stone Container paper mill, he and Anice served a mission to the Dominican Republic, where they helped with employment services.
When asked what brought him the most joy in his 88 years, Dad responded his greatest joy were his 23 children and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed serving in the temple and in the church. His favorite calling was a nursery worker. He enjoyed teaching the High Priest group in his ward and including harmonica selections as part of the lesson.
Dad’s wonderful sense of humor, joy of gardening, skills in fixing, building and inventing, love for life and firm testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was passed on to his large posterity. We look forward to a future reunion.
Dad was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Anice O’Neil Busby Martineau, as well as beloved parents, step-children, grandchildren and several siblings.
