Barbara Bernice (Gill) Lopp peacefully passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at her home in Everett, Wash. A memorial will be held in March in Everett.
She was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Glenwood, Ark., to Elmer and Lanora Gill.
Bernice moved to Holbrook in 1949 with her family. She graduated in 1950 from Holbrook High School, where she also met her husband of 65 years, George Raymond Lopp. They married shortly after her graduation.
Bernice and Ray moved to Flagstaff in 1965, where they raised their three children. Bernice graduated in 1975 from Northern Arizona University with a degree in nursing. She worked at the Flagstaff Hospital and at the Coconino County Health Department.
She enjoyed traveling, dinners at the Elks Lodge, the symphony, frequent walks, playing tennis and attending sporting events. She was an active member of the Northern Arizona Alumni Board, where she was consistently the top fundraiser for the program through its annual walk-a-thons. Additionally, she and Ray made personal scholarship donations to a deserving member of the NAU football team for many years.
Bernice had a fun and lovingly competitive personality. She was always willing to play any game and to join in any party.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Lopp; daughters Sherry Lopp Ord of Everett and Brenda (Dave) Brownell of Boise, Idaho, and son David (Tracy) Lopp of Ventura, Calif.; as well as five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Louis (Jody) Gill of Winslow.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up at NAU Sports Department, P.O. Box 5400, Flagstaff, Ariz. 86011.
