Visitors to Petrified Forest National Park are invited to hike the path Albert Einstein traveled when he visited the park in 1931, the Old Trails Hike, at 10 a.m. on Einstein Day, Tuesday, March 1. Allow three hours for this two-mile hike originating at the Rainbow Forest Museum. Be prepared for a rugged, off-trail hike with proper footwear, water, a hat, sunscreen and layered clothing.
Sandbox Archaeology will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the Painted Desert Visitors Center. Children get hands-on to excavate artifacts that reflect the rich human history of the park.
Join a ranger to explore evidence of an ancestral Puebloan village during the Puerco Pueblo Walk scheduled at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 4. Meet at Puerco Pueblo and allow one hour for this 0.3-mile walk on a paved loop. Immediately following, an additional half-mile walk will be offered for those interested in seeing seldom visited petroglyphs.
Walk along a rarely visited portion of the Mother Road on the Route 66 Hike planned at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 6. Allow two hours for this two-mile round trip hike starting from the Route 66 pullout. Be prepared for an off-trail hike with proper footwear, water, a hat, sunscreen and layered clothing.
Hike to a seldom-seen historic stagecoach stop and nearby petroglyphs on the Stagecoach Stop Hike at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Allow two hours for this two-mile round trip hike. Be prepared for an off-trail hike with proper footwear, water, a hat, sunscreen and layered clothing. In addition, cultural demonstrations are offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Painted Desert Inn.
