Holbrook exploded for seven runs in the second inning Tuesday afternoon while rolling to a 12-3 win over Show Low.
Playing in Show Low the Birds scored just once in the first, but the second inning was the impetus to their victory. They tacked on two more in each of the third and fourth innings to lead 12-0. The Cougars avoided the shutout with three runs in the home half of the fourth, but that was all they could manage.
Holbrook earned 12 runs on 18 hits and made just two errors.
Show Low had only seven hits, but made six errors.
At the plate for Holbrook, Gabe Gabaldon went 3 for 4 with an RBI, a walk and scored once; Scottie Gishie, 2 for 5 with an RBI; Cade Maestas, 5 for 5 with a triple, three RBIs and scored twice; Nick Robinson went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and scored once; Michael O’Brien, 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored once; Tristan Baldonado, 1 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and scored once; Alex Haussman, 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored twice; Delano Anaya, 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored twice; and Ryan Short, 2 for 4 and scored twice.
On the hill Baldonado worked four innings, facing 19 Cougar batters. He gave up three runs, only two earned, on five hits with eight strikeouts and walked three. Robinson worked three innings, facing only 12 batters. He gave up no runs with just two hits along with four strikeouts and two walks.
With the win the Roadrunners improved their overall mark to 5-2 and their power point game record to 3-0. They will travel to Chino Valley on Saturday, March 12, for a doubleheader contest, with the first game scheduled to begin at noon followed by the second game at 2 p.m. On Tuesday, March 15, they will have their first matchup of the season with the Bulldogs at Winslow.
