The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Cactus Cobras 8-2 on March 10, lost to the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets 16-2 on March 14 and defeated the Holbrook Roadrunners 6-0 on March 15. The results left them with a 4-6 record going into their game against the Show Low Cougars on March 19. They will host the Younker Roughriders today (March 23) and play the Broncos on Friday, March 25, at Poston Butte.
In the victory over Cactus, Matt Ramos was the winning pitcher, allowing just two runs, only one of which was earned, on just six hits and three walks. He fanned three.
Cactus scored in the first inning on an error and a single, but Winslow plated six in the second inning on four hits and three walks. The Bulldogs scored in the top of the third on an error and in the top of the fourth on two hits. Cactus scored in the bottom of the fourth on two hits.
C.J. Chacon led the Bulldogs at the plate with two doubles in four trips. Akeem Foster was 1 for 2. Kuster Kinlicheenie and Nate Hollins were both 1 for 3. Rey Chavez-Velez and Ramos were both 1 for 4.
In the 16-2 loss to Blue Ridge, Junior Villanueva took the loss on the hill, giving up eight runs on eight hits and three walks in 21/3 innings. Chavez-Velez worked two innings in relief and gave up seven runs, only three of which were earned, on eight hits and two walks. Foster worked two-thirds of an inning and allowed one run on one hit and two walks.
Blue Ridge took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a double and a single, and broke the game open in the top of the third, scoring nine runs on eight hits and two walks. Winslow scored in the bottom of the third on singles by Foster, Hollins and Chavez-Velez. Blue Ridge plated five runs in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the fifth. Winslow scored in the bottom of the fifth on a walk and a single by K.C. Clay, but the game was called under the 10-run rule.
Clay and Foster were both 1 for 1 at the plate. Velez and Ramos were 1 for 2, and Hollins was 1 for 3.
In the 6-0 win over Holbrook, Ramos recorded the seven-inning shutout, allowing just five hits and a walk while fanning nine. Winslow took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Villanueva, a walk to Hollins, Chavez-Velez being hit by the pitch and a single by Ramos. The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the fourth on a walk to Villanueva, and singles by Matt Bollin and Hollins. The final two runs scored in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Chacon, a walk and a single by Foster.
Bollin and Villanueva were 1 for 2. Hollins, Ramos and Foster were 1 for 3, and Chacon was 1 for 4.
