The Lady Roadrunners of Holbrook went 1-2 in the games preceding their appearance in the 28-team Gracie Haught Invitational softball tournament held in Payson last Friday and Saturday, where they went 2-3.
On March 11, Holbrook defeated St. Johns 11-1, with Izzy Jaquez picking up the win in the circle. She had four strikeouts and walked just three. Behind her the defense made just one error. At the plate Kallee Reidhead led with four hits and Jaquez helped herself with three hits. Holbrook was efficient, stranding just three runners in the game.
The following day the Roadrunners fell to visiting Kingman Academy by a final of 16-5. Jaquez and Destany Begay both worked the mound, giving up 13 total hits with only two strikeouts. Holbrook committed four errors on defense. Reidhead again led at the plate, going 3 for 5. Seven different players had one hit. They stranded 10 runners.
Their March 15 game at Winslow didn’t go well either. The Lady Bulldogs shut them out 14-0. Jaquez only gave up three hits, but Holbrook’s defense struggled with nine fielding errors. The Roadrunners also had four wild pitches, and 10 dropped or passed balls. Reidhead and Kendra Monroe each had one hit in the loss.
Holbrook went 2-3 in the Payson tourney. The Roadrunners picked up wins over Fountain Hills, 12-11, and Sunnyslope, 16-4. Their losses were to Snowflake, 13-0, Tempe, 9-1 and Deer Valley, 6-4.
So far on the season the Roadrunners have posted a 5-9 overall record, including action in two tournaments. Their regular season power point contest mark is 2-4. After resuming regular season play on Tuesday at home against Show Low, they will have a week off to prepare for their road trip to Wickenburg on Tuesday, March 29.
