No Date Has Yet Been Set For Kovach’s Grievance HearingFebruary 29th, 2008
By Tammy Gray-Searles A date has not yet been set for a hearing on a grievance filed by A’kos Kovach, former economic development director for the City of Holbrook. Interim City Manager Fern Larson explained that City Attorney Sterling Solomon and an attorney for Kovach are still working out a date for the hearing, and they will notify the city when they select a date. The hearing will be held in front of a personnel commission appointed by the city council. According to city policy, the commission will conduct the hearing and then issue an advisory decision to the council. The advisory decision will be in writing and will be made available to Kovach, the city’s personnel director and members of the council. An individual member of the commission may also present a minority recommendation if he or she so desires. Unless otherwise specifically requested in writing by Kovach, the hearing will be closed to the public. Kovach was fired in mid-January, and filed an appeal immediately following his termination. The ap-peal was then temporarily suspended at his request while he attempted to negotiate an agreement with the city. The council rejected the agreement on Feb. 12, thus reactivating the appeal.
