Migratory Bird Day Is SaturdayMay 9th, 2008
Petrified Forest National Park will celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 10. The day was set aside to focus attention on one of the most important and spectacular events in the life of a migratory bird--its journey between its summer and winter homes. Today, International Migratory Bird Day is celebrated in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Central America through bird festivals and bird walks, education programs, and Bird Day. There will be free bird checklists, coloring pages, fun activities and more to help people of all ages un-derstand and appreciate the importance of migratory birds. For serious birders, there will be a contest to see who spots the rarest, the most and the most unusual birds at the park. There are 475 bird species found in the state of Arizona. How many can you spot on Saturday at Petrified Forest National Park? For more information, call (928) 524-6228 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. MST.
