Holbrook Elks Lodge Honors Area Youth

    Many area youth were honored at the annual Youth Awards Dinner hosted Monday evening by Hol-brook Elks Lodge No. 2450.
    The Holbrook High School Students of the Year are Ryan Slade and Alixandria Ruechel.
    The Joseph City High School Student of the Year is Tracy Poudrier.
    JCHS Students of the Month included Spencer Baldwin, Will Griffith, Zach Miller, Tracy Poudrier, SheaLynn Hill, Julianne Hansen, Tori Mosier, Jaci Penrod, Tawni Mosier and Jared Gardner.
    The Holbrook Junior High School Students of the Year are eighth graders Miles Begay and Shantina Kinlicheenie, seventh graders Matthew Cano and Eryn Ruechel, and sixth graders Adryan Fulton and Cierra Shumway.
    The Joseph City Junior High School Student of the Year is Sara Solomon.
    JCJHS Students of the Month for the 2007-08 school year included Sara Solomon, Chance Rush, Taylor Hill, Robert Larsen, Natalie Farr, Joel Dewitt, Savanna Baer, Jacob Fields, Cheyenne Penrod and Bryce Crosby.
    Those honored as Teachers of the Year included Ginny Novell of HHS, Laura Mitchell of JCHS, Marilyn Johnson of HJHS and Trista Therman of JCJHS.
    Beth Buckhout was honored as HJHS Rookie Teacher of the Year.
    Cassie Pugh, a senior at JCHS, received an Elks National Scholarship Award of at least $4,000.
    Winners of the $1,000 Arizona Elks State Scholarship included Melissa Elsen of JCHS, and Brynn Foree and Colton Faust, both of HHS.
    Winners of the $500 local Elks Scholarship included Alixandria Ruechel and Jared Hatch, both of HHS, and Stephanie Lavarnway of JCHS.
    Winners of the Americanism Essay Contest for fifth and sixth grades are Brooklyn Barela, first place; Aaron Thomas, second; and Hannah Yazzie, third. Winners for the seventh and eighth grades are Jacie Cochran, first place; Kayla Hughes, second; and Payton Van Dyke, third.
    Winners of the Drug Awareness Poster Contest included: kindergarten through second grade, Abby McCarthy, first place, Kayen Benito, second, and Tyler Christensen, third; third and fourth grades, Logan Anselmo, first place, Tanner Walker, second, and Brett Sundwall, third; and fifth and sixth grades, Sevanna Katoney, first place, Meliea Rhein, second, and Faith Padilla, third.
    Eagle Scouts who were honored included Mitch Farnes, Daniel Bushman and Tristan Rogers, all of Troop 7159; and Zachary Baldwin, William Griffith, A.J. Taylor and Spencer Baldwin, all of Troop 7059.
    Soccer Kick winners included Zachary Reyes, boys under 7; Kearstin Saxton, girls under 7; Josh McCray, boys 8 to 9; Dariana Reyes, girls 10 to 11; Brandon Massey, first place boys 12 to 13, and Devon Nez, second.
    Hoop Shoot winners included: boys 8 and 9, Cade Maestas, first place, Cole McDaniels, second, and Daniel Gonzales, third; boys 10 and 11, Andon Hatch, first place, Scottie Gishie, second, and Brandon Ke-ster, third; boys 12 and 13, Kyle Chee, first place, Ben Williams, second, and Devin Nez, third; girls 8 and 9, Jadiana Perez, first place, Brianna Sam, second, and Kearstin Saxton, third; girls 10 and 11, Kim Ortega, first place, Quanyyah Lester, second, and Gabrielle Nez, third; and girls 12 and 13, Jessica Paz, first place, Sierra Johnston, second, and Shewon Nez, third.
