Winslow Man Dies After Saving Family On Lake Pow-ell VacationJune 30th, 2008
By Linda Kor Longtime Winslow resident Glenn Howeth, 62, died early Tuesday morning after suffering from an apparent heart attack while saving his family after realizing the boat they had rented was filled with carbon monoxide. Howeth and his extended family had rented an Aramark houseboat and were moored in Rock Creek Bay on Lake Powell. At approximately 3 a.m. Howeth awoke to discover his grandson passed out on the floor of the vessel and recognized that something was wrong. He was able to rouse his grandson and to-gether they evacuated the six other family members to the outside deck of the houseboat. During this process, Howeth, who had a significant cardiac history, suffered an apparent heart attack. Howeth’s grandson, a paramedic, performed CPR on him, but to no avail. Park rangers responded and the seven other family members were flown to Page for treatment. Six family members were later transferred to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah, for treatment in a hyperbaric chamber. Two family members showed signs of decreased mental ability and will undergo additional testing before being released. There was no information available at press time regarding funeral services.
