Jake Flake Honored By Snowflake City Council

June 30th, 2008

“We are very honored to have Senator Jake Flake’s wife, Mary Louise, with us tonight,” said Mayor Kelly Willis at the Snowflake Town Council June 24 meeting.
Willis told Mary Louise, “We want you to know how much we respect and honor you for the great lady you are,” and went on to say, “It’s an unbelievable thing, you raised 13 great children.”
Willis said, “I’d just like to say, on behalf of the town, we love you and we love your family.” He con-tinued, “At this time we know the passing of Jake, the family requested that if anyone wanted to send flow-ers to donate to the Academy Foundation.”  Willis said, “All through the state everybody knew your hus-band, senator or representative, and they honored and loved him for that.  He was able to make good friends with everybody, but here in Snowflake and on this little mountain he was our friend and he was able to touch our lives.
“In honor of a man we loved and respected, we present this in his honor, and let you know you’re an honored person,” Willis said to Mary Louise as he presented her with $1,000 check written to the Snow-flake Academy Foundation from the Town of Snowflake.
Mary Louise said, “I know Jake was a good man but I didn’t know so many other people knew it too.  It’s been gratifying to me to know so many other people loved him.”
Snowflake Academy Foundation President David Flake was present and gave a report to the council.
Flake said, “Concerning Jake, contributions coming in are quite overwhelming,” noting they have re-ceived several thousands of dollars and that he has been busy writing thank you notes, thanking donors on behalf of the foundation.
“They’re (donations) from all throughout the country. They refer to his position with Farm Credit, many from Farm Credit organization where he was a board member, Cattlemen’s Association, and of course, his time in politics.  Some people donated in his memory relationship being in the Stake Presidency and Stake President, he said. “In all walks of life he has touched the lives of many people.”
Flake said that Jake’s family requested contributions in his honor go to the Academy Foundation and said, “Those who have honored him have honored generously.”
