Photo by Tammy Gray-Searles Holbrook Fire Chief Merrill Young prepares some of the beef that will be served at the annual Fire-man’s Barbecue in celebration of Independence Day. More than 3,500 pounds of beef and 120 gallons of homemade barbecue sauce are being readied for the feast, which is a favorite meal and social tradition for many locals. The beef was slow roasted for 24 to 26 hours, then topped with the delicious barbecue sauce. The barbecue lunch will be held from 11 o’clock July 4 until the meat is gone at Fire Station No. 3 on Airport Road in Holbrook. The firemen will also present a fireworks display after dark tonight at the Navajo County Governmental Complex in south Holbrook.
