Gallery Of Nature Photography Receives Chamber Recognition

August 20th, 2008

The Holbrook Chamber of Commerce met Aug. 13 to discuss current projects and address upcoming events. The chamber also selected Ben Cole’s Gallery of Nature Photography as the recipient of July’s business recognition award for improving the community by doing business in Holbrook.
Chamber President Paul DoBell informed members that the chamber did receive the Arizona Office of Tourism grant, but at a 50 percent cut, noting that the cut wasn’t very surprising. “When you look at all the cuts being made in the state (budget), this was not unexpected,” he said. The grant totals $13,354.
City Manager Carlo Pilgrim addressed members attending the meeting, noting that he plans to be a regular visitor at the chamber meetings and looks forward to learning about the chamber. He also stated that he and Mayor Jeff Hill plan to take tours through the city on Wednesdays in order to visit businesses and get a feel for what the city needs. “One way to get to know the community is to get behind the doors and visit with the people,” stated Pilgrim.
Chamber Executive Director Josh Wenger informed members that Buffy Gallucci has been hired as a full-time employee at the chamber to oversee the Main Street Program.
Zella Webb, who has been recovering from knee surgery, is expected to return to work at the chamber in a couple of months, but only on a part-time basis.
Wenger also stated that the auditorium in the historic courthouse is now available for use. “The audito-rium can seat up to 32 people at this time, and is free to chamber members who want to use the room dur-ing chamber hours for the group meetings,” stated Wenger. The room will be able to have an average of 60 seats once an emergency exit is added to the room, which is planned for the near future.
The chamber is also investigating the possibility of having kiosks placed in front of the historic court-house and at Living West Park that would offer maps and take-away information for visitors.
DoBell also added that a tourism Web site called Leisure and Sport Review is allowing businesses to include their names and information on the site free of charge. The Leisure and Sport Review Web site can be viewed by going to www.lasr.net.
