College Board Approves Calendar For Coming Year

    The 2009-10 academic calendar for Northland Pioneer College was approved by the Navajo County Community College District Governing Board during a brief telephonic meeting Tuesday.
    Registration for fall classes in 2009 will begin on Monday, April 13, and the fall semester will start on Monday, Aug. 3.
    Registration for spring 2010 classes will begin on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, and classes for the spring semester will start on Monday, Jan. 11, although the semester itself will technically begin on Monday, Dec. 21. Winter break will begin on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, and continue through Jan. 3, 2010, however, most regular classes will not begin until Jan. 11. Spring break will be held during the last full week of March, from March 22-26. Graduation for the class of 2010 will be held on Saturday, May 15.
    Holidays observed by the college, and on which there will be no classes, include Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day. For the Thanksgiving holiday, the school will be closed Nov. 26-28.
    The 2010 summer session will run from Tuesday, June 1, to Friday, Aug. 6, with registration beginning on Monday, March 15. Holidays observed during the summer session will include Memorial Day on May 31 and Independence Day on July 4.
    The board unanimously approved the schedule.
    In other action Dec. 16, the board:
    * Approved intergovernmental agreements with the Chinle and Whiteriver school districts for concur-rent enrollment credits.
    * Agreed to reschedule a “First Things First” report due to inclement weather preventing the presenters from traveling to Holbrook.
    The next regular board meeting is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The meeting will be pre-ceded by a work session at 9:30 a.m.
