Navajo County Spelling Bee Champs

“Discriminate” was the word that won Krista Keeley (right), a sixth grader from the Blue Ridge School, the championship trophy from the 2009 Navajo County Spelling Bee. Runner up for the competition was Breinielle Laurente (center), a sixth grader from the Whiteriver School District, and Courtney Peterson (left), also a sixth grader from the Blue Ridge District, took third place. The event took place on Feb. 11 in Holbrook, with 52 spellers from across the county competing in the event. Krista now moves on to the state competition, which will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the KAET/Channel 8 studio in Tempe.
