Joseph City Founders Day Celebration Is Saturday

Area residents and visitors will celebrate Joseph City Founders Day on Saturday, March 21.
    A flag raising ceremony slated from 6:30 to 6:45 a.m. at the LDS church will open the celebration. Clarence Hansen is the coordinator of the ceremony.
    Area athletes are invited to participate in a 10K run, or 5K fun run and walk planned from 6:45 to 8:30 a.m., also at the church. Awards will be presented to the winners at 1 p.m. at the fire department’s auction. Bob Martineau is in charge of the races.
    A pancake and ham breakfast will be served from 7 to 9 a.m. at the church, hosted by Kevin Crosby and the Young Men.
    Stories and memories of Joseph City pioneers will be shared from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. at the church, coor-dinated by Kim Shelley.
    Registration for the River Run Off-Road Race, Wheelin’ Down the River, will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. north of the Little Colorado Bridge, with Brian Martineau in charge. The entry fee is $20, and trophies will be awarded for first place in each of the following categories: Adult Motorcycle, Youth Mo-torcycle, Sport ATV and Utility ATV. The off-road race follows from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
    The Tractor and Wagon Driving Challenge will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bushmans at 8200 Porter. There will also be an antique tractor and equipment show to showcase tools used in years past from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any tractors and old equipment, pre-1960, tractors running or not, discs, plows, wagons, scrapers, rakes and so forth, and horsedrawn equipment can be brought the day before or the morning of the event.     Also scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. is the turkey shoot at Manila Wash. There will be an entry fee of $5. Robert Pugh is in charge.
    A bicycle obstacle course challenge will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Joseph City Elementary School, with Cari Martineau in charge.     
    The Joseph City Fire Department will host a barbecue from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and an auction from 1 to 2 p.m. at the firehouse. The barbecue will be served for $7 for a large plate or $5 for a small plate.
    A horseless rodeo will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Reynolds Arena at North Porter, hosted by Leroy and Joyce Reynolds.
    The Founders Day Dance will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the old gym. The cost will be $3 per person or $10 per family. There will also be baked goods available to purchase.
    Sign-up sheets are available at Speedy’s for the 10K run and the 5K fun run and walk. The registration fee is $5, which includes a shirt, or free without a shirt. Age categories will include 10 years and under, 10-15 years, 16-19 years, 20-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years and 60+.
