Tire Failure Blamed In Fatal I-40 Crash

May 20th, 2009

Arizona Department of Public Safety investigators have determined that tire failure was the cause of a May 12 accident on Interstate 40 near the Leupp exit that claimed the life of 46-year-old Lane Roundy of Holbrook. Mr. Roundy was not wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash. He was flown by helicopter to Flagstaff Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
His son, Devin Roundy, 19, also of Holbrook, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer east on Interstate 40 when a tire failed and he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over at the underpass at milepost 245. Devin was wearing safety restraints, which lessened his injuries, according to investigators. He was transported to Little Colorado Medical Center in Winslow, where he was treated and later released.
