“Be Creative” and “Express Yourself” are the themes for the Holbrook Public Library’s 2009 summer youth reading campaign.
The “Be Creative” program is geared for children 6 to 11 years old, and “Express Yourself” is the pro-gram for youth age 12 to 17. The summer reading program kicked off June 1 and will continue throughout the summer with a number of fun events at the library.
At 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, June 10, 17 and 24, the library will put on a “Be Creative” activity for par-ticipants in the reading program. At 3 p.m. on Thursdays, June 11 and 25 there will be activities for “Ex-press Yourself” participants, and a movie at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 25.
The library will also host a matinee movie presentation at 2 p.m. every Friday and Monday in June, with movies on Fridays geared toward teens and the movies on Mondays geared toward families.
Storytime for pre-school children will continue throughout June as usual, with stories and snacks for youngsters at 11 a.m. on Fridays, June 5, 12 and 19. There will be no storytime on June 26 or July 3.
Special summer events at the library will kick off with a juggling act at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 4. James Reid, juggler extraordinaire, will perform stunts such as juggling while hula-hooping and eating an apple, and will finish his show by juggling flames. Other special events include a magic show at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 26, and a puppet show at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30.
Local residents of all ages are invited to attend the events. Registration for the summer youth reading program is free.
    The library’s regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.
