Knit-In Draws 29 Knitters From Across No. Arizona

June 24th, 2009

Veteran knitters with over 50 years of experience and beginners with a few months experience worked on a variety of scarves, sweaters, shawls and socks at Northern Arizona’s World Wide Knit in Public Day, held at La Posada hotel on June 14. All of the projects were different from one another and all were beautiful.
Laurie Klepinger of Flagstaff said of the second annual event, “It was incredible to meet so many blos-soming knitters from all over Arizona.”
Twenty-nine knitters met at Winslow’s Historic La Posada Hotel. After lunch in the Turquoise Room they sat on the back patio knitting and getting to know one another.
“This is the first time I’ve been able to relax like this in six months,” said Maureen Garlusky, owner of The Pine Yarn Shop in Pine Strawberry.
Mary Tyler of Holbrook was the newest knitter. She received a mini-lesson and started her first project after lunch.
“This event was so much fun,” was repeated by many knitters with a vow to get together several times a year.
If you’ve always wanted to learn this ancient fiber art, when you see the knitters knitting in Cottonwood at AlleyCat Yarn & Beads, Purl in the Pines in Flagstaff, The Pine Yarn Shop or students from Loose Ends School of Knitting in Winslow, stop to chat for a few moments. Knitters are always delighted to show you their current project and point you in the direction of your local yarn shop so you too may become a knit-a-holic.
Organizers of the event would like to thank La Posada Hotel, The Turquoise Room and The Tribune News for their support of this event. They hope to see you next year with even more knitters from around Arizona.

This is the second year the knitters have celebrated the event, and they plan to continue the annual tradition.
