Joseph City Firefighters Purchase Fire EngineJuly 1st, 2009
When Joseph City Fire Chief Rusty DeSpain asked his firefighters to think of a way to raise funds to purchase a fire engine, he was overwhelmed to see the commitment and support they have to the residents of Joseph City. To fund this purchase, the firefighters have generously donated the wages they obtain from responding to calls and attending monthly training classes for three years. Since these funds were used for the pur-chase, no taxes will be raised. The engine was purchased to replace JCFD’s 1973 Boardman engine that has protected the district for more than 30 years. The new engine will provide added safety to firefighters on the fire ground and in-creased pumping capacity while battling fires. The addition of this new engine will also comply with new Insurance Services Office (ISO) standards set forth, which may have caused an increase in insurance rates if no new engine was purchased. The engine that was purchased is a 1993 Simon Duplex 1250 GPM, six-man cab engine. Not only is the engine equipped with fire suppression equipment, a new set of extrication tools was also installed to aid in the rescue of trapped accident victims. The total cost of the engine was $62,500.
