Independence Day Celebrations

    Area residents and visitors along the Interstate 40 corridor in Navajo County will have plenty of activities to choose from as they celebrate Independence Day on Saturday, July 4.
Joseph City
    A day of family activities has been scheduled to celebrate Independence Day in Joseph City.                  
    The schedule of events includes: a children’s red, white and blue parade at 9 a.m.; activities at the park, including 25-cent games, vendor booths, rooster chase and tug-o-war starting at 9:30 a.m.; sand volleyball and a horseshoe tournament at 10 a.m. (sign up in advance at the park); an ice cream churn-off at 11 a.m.; and a basketball tournament at Joseph City High School in the afternoon.
    There will also be a bake sale, and hot dog and hamburger meals will be offered for lunch for $5.
    A slippy-slide will be available during the day.
    Everyone is invited to attend.
Holbrook
    The annual Holbrook Volunteer Firemen’s Barbecue is scheduled from 11 a.m. until the meat is gone on Saturday at Fire Station No. 3 on Airport Road. Tickets for the all you can eat meal are $8 for adults and $5 for kids. Takeout plates are also available. Tickets may be purchased from any fireman or at the door.
    The Holbrook firemen will also present their free fireworks show after dark July 4 at the Navajo County Governmental Complex in south Holbrook.
Winslow
    The Winslow fireworks display is scheduled for just after dark (approximately 7:30 p.m.) at Emil Nasser Stadium. The Winslow Stars dance group will provide a halftime show.  
    Dan Simmons is in charge of the fireworks display. David Mace will be directing the music at the show and his wife, Lori Mace, will be the master of ceremonies.
