Joseph City School Board Postpones Approval Of 2009 Financial Report

October 2nd, 2009

By Tammy Gray-Searles
A special meeting of the Joseph City School District Governing Board was held Tuesday evening to approve the financial report for fiscal year 2009 prior to the state deadline. The report could not be finalized, however, due to a staff member’s personal emergency, so another special meeting will need to be called.
The deadline set by the state for the board to approve the financial report is prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting, so another special meeting will be necessary as soon as the financial report can be finalized. A date for that meeting has not yet been set.
Since the special meeting on Tuesday had already been called and other items appeared on the agenda, the board moved forward with other business.
Four coaches were appointed so that they can begin working with their teams prior to the next regular board meeting. All of the coaching appointments were for Joseph City Junior High School, and included wrestling and volleyball slots.
A volunteer and a substitute teacher also received the board’s approval.
Those approved for coaching, volunteer and substitute positions by the board included: Kevin Crosby, JCJHS wrestling coach; Julie Fields, JCJHS volleyball coach; Erika Maughn, JCJHS volleyball coach; Aaron Westover, JCJHS wrestling coach; Jeri Edwards, JCJHS volleyball volunteer; and Kelly Martin, substitute teacher.
The board also heard a brief report on current events, including plans for homecoming week activities.
Joseph City homecoming week is Oct. 5-9. The homecoming football game will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, against Fredonia. A varsity volleyball game against Fredonia is planned for 4 p.m. that day.
    Homecoming activities include:
    * Monday, Oct. 5, Hat Day.
    * Tuesday, Oct. 6, Crazy Hair and Crazy Sock Day, macho volleyball and powder puff football.
    * Wednesday, Oct. 7, Athlete Day and a lip sync contest.
    * Thursday, Oct. 8, Blue and Gold Day, homecoming parade, pep assembly, bonfire and class games.
    * Friday, Oct. 9, Dress Up Day, varsity volleyball, varsity football and a homecoming dance.
The next regular meeting of the board is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
