Taylor Citizen Sought To Fill Vacancy On Council

October 21st, 2009

Those interested in filling a vacancy on the Taylor Town Council created by the resignation of Mayor John Cole are being asked to step forward.
The council discussed options for selecting a new member Oct. 14.
“From the past it looks like they’ve done a lot of screening names. I’d like to see who in town might be interested. That’s a good way to see who’s interested and willing to serve,” said Councilman Jordy Fuentes.
Town Manager Eric Duthie explained that there are a variety of methods available to fill the seat, giving an example of requiring letters of interest, which the council would review, then conduct interview, the council members could individually talk to people to see if there is an interest.
“We want someone who wants to be here, who is interested in the town,” said Councilman Jared Hatch.
Fuentes suggested that if there are people council members would like to talk to regarding the vacancy, they can request that those persons write a letter of interest.
“At the end, we can bring names to the table, nominate and vote, whether we nominate people ourselves or people express interest,” said Councilman Robin Palmer.
Taylor residents who are willing to serve on the town council are asked to submit a letter of interest to town hall by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26.
