Roxie West Owens

    Roxie West Owens, who would have turned 89 on Nov. 5, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at her home in Show Low, surrounded by all of her children.  Funeral services were held Oct. 20 in the Show Low Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Interment was in the Show Low Cemetery.
    Roxie was born in Lakeside to Karl B. and Irma Hansen West.  
    She married A. Orr Owens on Nov. 12, 1936, in the Mesa Temple, and lived most of her life in Show Low.  
    In her early years, she and Orr owned and operated the Show Low Oil Company and Shamrock Cafe.  It was there she began baking her famous pies.  She and Orr lived in Phoenix from 1957 to 1971.  During that time she sold real estate and insurance. After returning to Show Low, she continued teaching piano and through the years has had the privilege of teaching hundreds of piano students.
    As a lifelong, faithful member of the LDS church she served in numerous positions, always going the extra mile. She will always be remembered for her musical talents.
     Survivors include six children, O. Lavell (Lorna) of Show Low, Earl J. (RaQuelle “Kelly”) of Lakeside, Lanny D. (Margie) of Mesa, Rhonda (Doyle) Jones of Fountain Green, Utah, Collins W. (Linda) of Mesa and Jeannette (Eben) Lewis of Show Low; 43 grandchildren; 123 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Geraldine Peterson, Mildred Packard and Wanda Palmer, all of Mesa.  
    She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, A. Orr Owens; an infant son, Richard Dean Owens; and one grandson, Bruce P. Owens.
    Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
