Two New Officers Are Elected For Silver Creek Senior Center

October 28th, 2009

The Silver Creek Senior Center recently held an election to fill the offices of first and second vice chair.
Keith Baldwin expressed a desire to serve, and was elected as first vice chair.  He is a retired businessman and presently has a home-based business that would allow him time to serve.  Baldwin previously served the Snowflake-Taylor Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is presently treasurer for the Navajo County Republican Committee. He told the board that he knows how to get things done and expressed his love for the seniors in the community.
Vera Hubble was elected as second vice chair. She is a retired nurse with 20-plus years of experience, and expressed a desire to serve on the board.  She said that she considers herself to be a team player and would help in any way that she could.  She has been helping at the front desk and will be available to help Center Director Loretta Whitlow.
Treasurer Myrtle Williams reported that they have a large group of volunteers who recently helped mail letters to business leaders and residents of Snowflake and Taylor asking for contributions to help maintain the center and provide a comfortable facility where the senior citizens can have a meal and interact with friends.
The center is looking for donations of not just money, but time, as well as professional services, help in the kitchen, help maintaining the grounds, working at the Thrift Store and delivering Meals On Wheels.
The Thrift Store gladly provides clothing for a new job or job interview to those who are in need.
A variety of activities are offered at the center.  Following lunch there is an activity, such as a board game or bingo.
Whitlow reported that the center served approximately 70 meals on a recent Thursday. The number of participants continues to grow.
Cindy Schreiber will continue serving as chairman of the center’s board, with Barbara Bigler as secretary.  Also serving on the board are Snowflake Town Manager Paul Watson, Taylor Town Manager Eric Duthie, Jeff Johnson, who represents the Town of Taylor, and Delma Brewer, who represents the Town of Snowflake.
To make reservations for lunch or for more information on activities, call the center at 536-2222 or e-mail silvercreeksrcenter@frontiernet.net.
