November 4th, 2009

By Naomi Hatch
The 2009 Capitol Christmas Tree will come from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, and will be cut on Saturday, Nov. 7.  It will then tour Arizona, coming to the Snowflake and Taylor communities on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The tree will be escorted from the Taylor town limits by antique fire trucks from Taylor and Snowflake. Santa Claus will lead the procession to the Bashas’ parking lot in Taylor, where there will be a brief program that will include performances by the Snowflake High School Madrigal under the direction of Mindy Flake and the Northland Pioneer College Choir under the direction of Professor Julie Anna Holtan. Snowflake Mayor Kelly Willis and Taylor Mayor Debbie Tuckfield will say a few words. The program will conclude with everyone singing “America the Beautiful.”
The Snowflake-Taylor Chamber of Commerce is organizing this event, and asks that if you plan to attend, you be at Bashas’ by 11:30 a.m.
Following the program the procession will go down Main Street through Snowflake.
“We are honored to have been chosen one of the towns to stop in on their way to Washington, D.C.  Excitement is rising as our communities learn more about this historical event,” said Chamber President Patti Matyas.
