Snowflake Man Is Killed In Hit And Run AccidentNovember 11th, 2009
A Snowflake man was struck and killed in a hit and run accident on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and a 27-year-old Clay Springs man, Jonathan W. Garvin, has been charged with his death. At approximately 4:29 p.m. on Nov. 3, the Snowflake-Taylor Police Department received a call reporting a vehicle-pedestrian accident that occurred near Porter Street and Snowflake Boulevard (Highway 277) in Snowflake. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that Dwight Rohrer Armstrong, 65, had been hit by a vehicle and was deceased. A vehicle mirror was the only evidence left at the scene. There was no indication that the vehicle attempted to stop and render aid. No witnesses were found at or near the accident scene. Highway 277 was shut down for several hours during the investigation. Navajo County Sheriff’s deputies, Department of Public Safety officers, Show Low Police Department officers and STPD officers worked together investigating the crime scene and following up on information gained. Adam Blaine Waddell, 33, of Clay Springs went to the Show Low Police Department to report the accident as a witness. He was a passenger in the vehicle that struck Armstrong. The multiagency investigation continued and obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle. The execution of the search warrant was successful, and Garvin was arrested. He reportedly admitted driving the vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident. He was arrested and booked into the Navajo County Jail in Holbrook for leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and manslaughter. Next of kin had not been established as of the afternoon of Nov. 4. Anyone who has information that would help locate Armstrong’s immediate family is asked to contact the Snowflake-Taylor Police Department so that proper notification can be given.
