New Fee Schedule Is Proposed For Joseph City School Activities

November 18th, 2009

By Tammy Gray-Searles
A first reading of proposed changes to the student activity fee was held Nov. 10 during the Joseph City School District Governing Board meeting.
The policy change must be read a second time and then receive an affirmative vote from the board before it is put in place.
Under the proposal, participation fees will remain the same at $25 per activity for high school students and $10 for junior high school students, with a maximum of $150 per family per school year.
Individual admission fees would remain the same for most age groups, but a $2 fee for those over the age of 60 would be implemented. The $4 admission price for adults and $3 for students would remain the same, and children five and under would continue to be admitted for free.
Activity card prices would increase for all ages, except for seniors, who could still obtain a card at no cost. Adult activity card prices would increase from $30 to $50, student cards from $20 to $35 and family cards from $100 to $200. District employees may obtain a card for free, but the card will only be good for the employee, not additional guests. Businesses would no longer get a free activity card with the purchase of a yearbook ad, but may purchase a card for $35 with the purchase of a yearbook ad.
In other action Nov. 10, the board:
    * Approved the appointment of Raquel Hughes as a part-time Title I aide, Andrea Miller as a substitute teacher, Robert Pugh as Joseph City Junior High School track coach, Julie Strong as a part-time Title I aide and Judy Young as JCJHS assistant track coach.
    * Accepted the resignation of Kevin Crosby as Joseph City High School assistant wrestling coach.
    * Approved the sale of business discount cards as a JCHS music fund-raiser.
    * Approved Darwin Campbell and Layne Miller as JCHS boys’ basketball volunteers.
The board’s next regular meeting has been rescheduled from Dec. 8 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
