Airport Damage Could Be Deadly

November 20th, 2009

By Sam Conner
The Winslow Lindberg Airport recently experienced damage to runway lights through acts of vandalism. There has been other related damage at the facility, but this vandalism creates a potentially dangerous and even life-threatening situation.
The persons committing the vandalism have cut fencing to get onto the runways and broken lights, which are used by pilots to see and line up for landing on the runways when conditions require such lighting to be safely performed.
The lack of proper lighting could be a factor in an accident, which could prove fatal to the occupants of an aircraft or possibly to persons on the ground in the vicinity of the accident. It is possible that the vandals have no intention of causing an accident and certainly not one in which the loss of life occurs. The perpetrators may be juveniles with no serious intent to cause injury by their acts of vandalism, but that lack of intent does not limit the potential effects of their actions.
Winslow citizens are encouraged to become aware of the problem and inform the police if they have any information regarding these dangerous acts of vandalism.
Parents should be aware of the actions of their children and take measures to be sure that their offspring are not involved in such activities. All citizens should be observant and report any information they feel may be helpful.
Anyone who has been involved in such acts of vandalism should recognize the potentially deadly consequences of those actions and cease and desist immediately.
