Shingoitewa Elected As Chairman Of Hopi Tribe

    Leroy Ned Shingoitewa was elected as chairman of the Hopi Tribe Nov. 18 and Herman G. Honanie as vice chairman, according to official election results provided by the tribe.
    The two will be sworn in at a council session on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
    Shingoitewa faced off against Clark W. Tenakhongva, and received 1,084 votes to Tenakhongva’s 560.
    Honanie beat Leroy Sumatzkuku, 1,010 votes to 634.
    The tribe has been without a chairman since last December when Ben Nuvamsa resigned mid-term.
