New Holbrook Clinic To Be Built With Stimulus FundingDecember 16th, 2009
By Linda Kor Holbrook will be one of several communities in Northern Arizona that will be reaping the benefits of a $7.4 million grant received by North Country HealthCare through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Of that total, $2.4 million will go toward the construction of a new health care facility that will more than double the size of the current North Country HealthCare clinic located on West Florida Street. The new facility will span 9,000 square feet and will likely provide eight new healthcare jobs, as well as 17 new construction jobs in Holbrook. North Country is a community health center, which means that it provides primary care services to people regardless of their ability to pay. North Country will also be constructing new facilities in Springerville and in Flagstaff, bringing a total of 28 new healthcare jobs and 46 new construction jobs throughout the region. “These funds will also go toward providing equipment for those new facilities, but will not include salaries for new employees,” explained Rick Swanson, director of marketing and development for North Country. Construction of the Holbrook facility should begin in the next three months and is expected to be complete in two years. The site for the new facility has not yet been finalized, although Swanson indicated there is a location under consideration. This is the fourth round of stimulus funding received by North Country through ARRA. The organization received $1.3 million earlier this year, allowing for construction of a new clinic in Show Low that opened in July. A second round in the amount of $500,000 was received after that, which allowed for increased capacity at the clinics in Kingman and Lake Havasu. A third round of $1.6 million went to additional construction, doubling the size of the Winslow and Kingman clinics. North Country has 12 clinic locations and approximately 300 employees across Northern Arizona. “We are seeing a greater demand for services and we are excited that we will be able to meet that demand,” stated Swanson, adding that North Country anticipates being able to provide services to 10,000 additional patients over the next two years.
