Winslow Arts Council Proposes Patrons Of Arts Organization

December 24th, 2009

By Sam Conner
Sarah Smithson, chairperson of the Winslow Arts Council, has approved a proposal that the council propose a Winslow Patrons of the Arts organization. The purpose of the organization will be to publicize art related functions through press relations, radio news and other methods. The Arts Council is a new organization appointed and supported by the Winslow City Council, but not funded by the city.
The Arts Council and the proposed Patrons of the Arts organization will be raising money for the coming second annual “Art Sweet Arts II Mixer,” which was a very successful project last year.
The 2010 mixer will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, at the Hubbell Building, located at 523 W. Second St. In addition to enjoying light refreshments and the work of local artists, there will also be a silent auction to raise funds to establish a base of funding to bring additional art activities to Winslow.
If a person or organization would like to become a Patron of the Winslow Arts Council, please call Peggy Wilson at the city offices at 289-1411 for more information. The council is also looking for donations of art objects for the silent auction.
The Arts Council has plans to distribute information quarterly with the city water bill and otherwise which will feature an artist, a patron, a business or service club for contributions to the building of the community, whether it be from donations, service projects, personal accomplishments, blue ribbons at the county fair or that 10 foot high lilac bush in bloom. There is much to celebrate in Winslow and a vehicle is needed.
