Winslow Council Receives Several Reports From StaffJanuary 15th, 2010
By Sam Conner Tuesday evening, the Winslow City Council received a “for your information” report from the city manager which included reports from the city clerk/treasurer, city attorney, executive secretary, librarian, code compliance officer, police department and public housing director. The city clerk listed activities which included meetings, help with other staff members due to a shortage of personnel, attending ceremonies, setting up interviews for board and commission vacancies, election related activities, research for the city attorney and preparations for various meetings. The city attorney reported on a variety of activities that included drafting of contracts, telephonic meetings on several subjects, review and editing of bid specs and memorandum of understanding, review of plans and proposals, reviewing and preparing of agreements, and researching information on a variety of issues. The executive secretary reported of work on community block grants, the strategic planning session, meetings and agendas, and dealing with requests from various agencies. The librarian reported on activities at the facility, which included 23,025 walk-in clients in six months, who checked out 23,918 books and other material. She reported receiving $3,000 reimbursement for Internet communication costs, and on the Anne Hillerman book signing and other events. The code compliance officer reported 47 new cases, 86 cases closed, 60 becoming compliant and 16 filed in court. The police department reported 38 cases of domestic violence, nine of which were assault and 22 disorderly conduct. There were 67 transient reports, of which 14 were welfare checks and 10, ambulance calls. There were 27 cases referred to the Criminal Investigation Division. The animal care center reported 97 cases, 31 adoptions and 60 animal intakes, as well as 44 calls. The public housing director reported on an inspection by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) officials that resulted in an excellent score of 97 out of a possible 100.
