Lobo Golfers Open Season With Big WinMarch 6th, 2008
By Greg Perkins After the first golf match of the season, it is quite apparent that Snowflake Coach Steve Schneider has the team to beat. Hosting an 18-hole varsity match last Thursday, the Lobos easily took top honors in both the individual score as well as the team scores in the six-team match. Freshman Kyle Jones shot the low round of the day, carding a 71, which could be a common occurrence this season as Kyle is a nationally ranked player in his age category. Nick Routhier posted an 80, with Parker McDonald coming in with an 87 to complete a top three individual sweep for the Lobos. Rounding out the team score for Snowflake were Tanner Stratton with an 88 and Tyson Webb with an 89. Snowflake posted a total of 326 strokes to outdistance Show Low, which placed second with 375 team strokes, followed by Blue Ridge with 381, Winslow with 424 and Holbrook with 478. Payson had just three players complete the round and did not qualify for a team score. Along with the five varsity players, the Lobos will have Bryce Palmer, Michael Peterson, Jacob Boone, Gus Montajano, Nick Alcantar and Jeff Johnston playing on the junior varsity team and trying to work their way onto the varsity list. The golfers will take to the links on Thursday, March 6, for a nine-hole conference match at Silver Creek.
