Roadrunners Lose To Blue Ridge, 10-0March 10th, 2008
By Greg Perkins When baseball teams make too many mistakes, such as walking batters, hitting batters and committing fielding and base running errors, it is hard for them to pick up wins. According to Holbrook Coach Shawn Layden, the Roadrunners have had too many of those same type errors in the early part of their season. Tuesday afternoon’s home game against Blue Ridge was another case where mistakes led to extra chances for the opponent, and the Yellowjackets are a good enough team without getting any extra help. The Jackets scored twice in the top of the first, then pushed in five runs in the second and three more in the third inning to secure a 10-0, shortened game against Holbrook. Blue Ridge only out hit the Birds by four, but three Holbrook fielding errors allowed the Yellowjackets to make the most of their hits. Holbrook scattered four hits over the five innings, with Tyrell Sulu, Marcus Castillo, Gabi Aguilera and Adriel Aguilera each collecting singles. The Jackets had seven singles and a double. Holbrook left three runners on base, while Blue Ridge stranded eight runners. Holbrook’s pitchers combined for six walks and hit two Blue Ridge batters. Their first game was with Needles on Thursday and they expect to get five games in over the course of the three-day tournament.
