Joseph City Track Teams Look Good In Early Meets

    The Joseph City High School track teams opened their season at the 3A North Skydome Classic held March 4 in Flagstaff, and though competing against bigger schools, the boys’ team was able to come home with a sixth place overall finish, scoring 30 team points.  Sedona placed first with 60, followed by Snow-flake with 54, Chino Valley, 53, Blue Ridge, 48, and Winslow, 45.
    Individual results for the boys follow.
    In the 60 meter dash, Zach Baldwin placed sixth with a time of 7.48; Jared Gardner, 14th in 7.66; and Sean DeWitt, 34th in 7.93.  
    In the 200 meter dash, Zach Baldwin was fourth with a time of 24.59; Jared Gardner, ninth in 24.74; and Dalton Hughes, 23rd in 25.73.
    In the 400 meter dash, Justin Clifford placed second with a time of 53.39.  
    In the 800 meter run, Tracy Poudrier placed eighth with a time of 2:15.14; A.J. Smith, 11th in 2:16; and Chance Fish, 30th in 2:29.
    In the 1500 meter run A.J. Smith placed 14th with a time of 4:51, Eric Aurora was 16th in 4:52 and Steven Begay placed 33rd with a time of 5:09.
    In the 3000 meter run, Eric Aurora placed 17th with a time of 11:05; A.J. Smith, 22nd in 11:27; and Chris Coppinger, 39th in 13:05.
    In the 60 meter hurdles, Cory Thellmann placed third with a time of 8.86; and Spencer Baldwin, 16th in 10.63.
    In the high jump, Cory Thellmann placed first, clearing a height of 6’6.5”;  and Justin Clifford, ninth with 5’4”.  
    In the long jump, Dalton Hughes placed eighth with a distance of 18’5”; William Bushman, 41st with 13’3”; and Justin Parisot, 42nd with 13’.
    In the triple jump, Cory Thellmann placed sixth, traveling a distance of 38’1”; Luke DeWitt, 19th with 32’1”; and William Bushman, 25th with 29’.
    In the shot put, Spencer Baldwin placed 12th with a toss of 39’2”; Chris Coppinger, 38th with 31’; and Sean DeWitt, 42nd with 27’6”.  
    The boys’ 4x400 meter relay team placed seventh with a time of 3:51.
    Individual results for the girls follow.
    The girls’ 4x400 meter relay team earned the team’s only point with a sixth place finish in a time of 4:33.
    In the high jump, Mackenzie Fields placed 10th with a height of 4’4”; and Natalie Griffith, and Megan Johnstun tied for 23rd with 4’.
    In the long jump, Megan Johnstun placed 29th with 11’9”; and Mackenzie Fields, 38th with 11’1”.
    In the 60 meter dash, Lindsey Larsen placed 10th with a time of 8.64; Cassie Gardner, 21st in 8.96; and Natalie Griffith, 27th in 9.16.  
    In the 200 meter dash, Jessi Rush placed ninth with a time of 28.84;  Lindsey Larsen, 10th in 28.97; and Cassie Gardner, 20th in 30.03.
    In the 800 meter dash, Tonina Toney placed 39th with a time of 3:13; and Victoria Lavarnway, 41st in 3:14.
    In the 1500 meter run, Tonina Toney placed 16th, crossing the line in 5:58.
    In the 60 meter hurdles, Jesse Rush placed 11th with a time of 11.49.
    At the Monument Valley Invitational held on Saturday, Joseph City fared very well.
    The Lady Wildcats placed fourth in the girls’ division with 54 points. Chinle was first with 88.5, fol-lowed by Tuba City with 88 and Alchesay with 76.
    In the boys’ division, the Wildcats placed third overall with 63 points.  Monument Valley easily won the event with 158 points, while Tuba City was second with 83.  Ganado placed fourth with 53 and Win-dow Rock rounded out the top five with 51 points.
    Individual results for the girls follow.
    In the finals of the 100 meter dash, Lindsey Larsen placed third and Cassie Gardner was fifth.   
    In the 200 meter finals, Lindsey Larsen placed third; Cassie Gardner, sixth; and Natalie Griffith, sev-enth.   
    In the 400 meter run finals, Lindsey Larsen placed second.
    In the 800 meter finals, Tonina Toney placed eighth.
    In the 100 meter hurdles, Jessi Rush placed second.
    In the 300 meter hurdles, Jessi Rush placed seventh.
    In the 4x100 relay, the combo of Cassie Gardner, Natalie Griffith, Lindsey Larsen and Jessi Rush placed first with a time of 56.18.   
    In the high jump, Megan Johnstun placed first, clearing 4’8”.
    Individual results for the girls follow.
    In the 100 meter dash, Zach Baldwin placed second.  
    In the 200 meter dash, Stephen Solomon placed first; and Zach Baldwin, second.  
    In the 800 meter run, Tracy Poudrier placed fourth; and A.J. Smith, eighth.
    In the 300 meter hurdles, Stephen Solomon placed second overall.
    In the 4x100 meter relay, the team of Zach Baldwin, Sean DeWitt, William Griffith and Dalton Hughes took top honors with a time of 48.43.   
    In the 4x400 meter relay the team of Zach Baldwin, Dalton Hughes, Tracy Poudrier and Stephen Solo-mon placed second with a time of 3:49.
    In the 4x800 meter relay, the team of Eric Aurora, Steven Begay, Tracy Poudrier and A.J. Smith placed fourth.
    In the long jump, Dalton Hughes placed seventh with a distance of 16’1”.  
    In the triple jump, Luke DeWitt placed sixth with a distance of 32’9”.
    The track teams’ next action will be on Friday, March 14, when they compete in the Round Valley Invi-tational in Eagar.
