HHS Golfers Look Good In Recent CompetitionsMarch 12th, 2008
By Greg Perkins Following a slow start in their first match of the season, Holbrook’s golfers have shown steady im-provement in their last two meets. Playing an 18-hole match at Beaver Creek near Camp Verde on March 4, the Roadrunners were led by Quayla Skevington, who was a medallist after posting an impressive 79. Ryan Best carded a 98, followed by A.J. Larsen with a 103, Ben Rishel, 110, and Kordell Curley, 117. As a team, the Birds posted a 390, finishing four strokes behind the host school Camp Verde, which shot a 386. Playing a nine-hole match at Hidden Cove March 6, Holbrook was once again led by Skevington, who shot a 45. Best carded a 48, Rishel, 51, Larsen, 55, and Hanley, 62. Blue Ridge won the varsity match with a total of 167, followed by Holbrook with 199 and Payson just one shot back with a 200. In the junior varsity match, Connor Hager shot the low round with a 53. Kordell Curley posted a 60, Randall Justman, 66, and Monte Pete, 68. The golfers will play a nine-hole match at Silver Creek today (March 12), then have a week off before playing another nine holes at Snowflake on March 19, which will be their final competition until after spring break.
