Joseph City Track Teams Look Good At Round Valley Invitational Meet

    Joseph City’s track teams made a good showing at the Round Valley Invitational meet held March 12 in Eagar. The girls’ team placed 13th in the 18-team field with 11 points, while the boys’ team finished in seventh place overall with 42 points.
    Sedona won the overall girls’ title with 118 points. Blue Ridge was second with 104 and Sinagua placed third with 81.
    For the boys, Blue Ridge took the top team honors with 101 points.  Sedona placed second with 93 and Durango, Colo., was third with 89.
    The Wildcats had several athletes competing, some with some very high finishes in the large meet.
    Individual results for the Joseph City girls follow.
    In the 100 meter hurdles, Jessi Rush placed 11th with a time of 19.02.  
    In the 100 meter dash, Lindsay Larson placed seventh in 13.8; Cassie Gardner, 21st in 14.87; and Me-gan Johnstun, 35th in 15.85.  
    In the 200 meter dash, Cassie Gardner placed 15th in a time of 30.37; and Mackenzie Fields, 25th in 31.82.  
    In the 400 meter run, Jessi Rush placed sixth in a time of 1:06; and Lindsay Larson, ninth in 1:08.  
    In the 800 meter run, Victoria Lavarnway placed 26th in 3:12.2; and Tonina Toney, 28th in 3:12.5.  
    In the 1600 meter run, Tonina Toney placed 40th with a time of 8:09.    
    In the 4x100 meter relay, the Joseph City team placed seventh with a time of 56.25.
    In the field events, Megan Johnstun placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 4’8”.  
    In the long jump, Megan Johnstun placed 19th with a distance of 11’9”; Victoria Lavarnway, 23rd with 11’5”; and Mackenzie Fields, 31st with 9’10”.  
    In the discus, Kaylee Pugh placed 40th with a throw of 44’9”.  
    In the shot put, Kaylee Pugh was 18th with a toss of 25’.

    In the 110 hurdles, Cory Thellmann placed third with a time of 16.00.   
    In the 100 meter dash, Zack Baldwin placed seventh in a time of 11.96; Stephen Solomon, 14th in 12.16; and William Griffith, 26th in 12.59.
    In the 200 meter dash, Zack Baldwin placed 19th with a time of 25.92.
    In the 400 meter run, Chance Fish was the top Wildcat finisher with a time of 1:03.1; Luke DeWitt placed 40th in 1:03.9; and Chris Coppinger, 46th in 1:08.  
    In the 800 meter run, Tracy Poudrier finished in seventh place in a time of 2:20; and Chance Fish, 24th in 2:31.  
    In the 1600 meter run, AJ Smith placed seventh in a time of 5:08; Eric Aurora, 21st in 5:20; and Steven Begay, 50th in 5:50.  
    In the 3200 meter run, Eric Aurora placed 18th in a time of 12:08; AJ Smith, 21st in 12:14; and Chris Coppinger, 34th in 14:10.   
    The 4x100 meter relay team placed seventh in 49.07.  
    The 4x400 meter team placed sixth in 3:50.
    The 4x800 meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 9:11.
    In the field events, Cory Thellmann led the way with a first place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 6’3”. Justin Clifford placed third at 6’.  
    In the long jump, Dalton Hughes placed 17th with a distance of 16’7”; and Justin Parisot, 36th with 12’11”.  
    In the triple jump, Luke DeWitt placed 15th with a distance of 30’9”; and Tracy Poudrier, 18th with 28’6”.  
    In the discus, Spencer Baldwin placed fourth with a throw of 119’2”; and Sean DeWitt, 31st with 87’8”.  
    In the shot put, Spencer Baldwin placed 14th with a toss of 38’; and Chris Coppinger, 34th with 31’9”.
    The Wildcats will see their next action today (March 19) in Snowflake. They will then be off for spring break and will resume their schedule on Wednesday, April 2, with a meet in Winslow.
