HHS Track Teams Compete In Round Valley InvitationalMarch 19th, 2008
By Greg Perkins Holbrook’s track teams benefited from some good individual performances at the Round Valley Invitational meet held Friday in Eagar. A first place finish in the shot put by Chelsea John, a fourth place finish in the high jump by Rex Self and a fifth place finish in the discus by Olin Jones highlighted the meet for Holbrook. In the girls’ division it was Sedona claiming first place with 118 points. Blue Ridge placed second with 104 and Sinagua was third with 81. Holbrook placed 10th with 19 points. In the boys’ division, Blue Ridge took top honors with 101 points, followed by Sedona with 93 and Durango, Colo., with 89. Holbrook placed 13th with 12 team points. Individual results for the Holbrook girls follow. In the 100 meter hurdles, Jennifer Basaldua placed 14th with a time of 20.19; and Danielle Tapaha, 15th in 20.33. In the 100 meter dash, Jennifer Basaldua placed 25th in 15.08; and Tess McGee, 28th in 15.19. In the 200 meter dash, Danielle Tapaha placed 13th with a time of 30.02; Tess McGee, 21st in 31.18; and Kalei Long, 29th in 32.22. In the 400 meter run, Kalei Long placed 19th in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:14; and Chantelle Gaddy, 24th in 1:18. In the 800 meter run, Natasha Goldtooth placed 22nd in 3:08; Valdena John, 32nd in 3:17; and Andrell Williams, 34th in 3:22. In the 1600 meter run, April Lester placed 12th with a time of 6:28; Valdena John, 25th in 6:54; and Chantelle Gaddy, 33rd in 7:22. In the 3200 meter run, Lester placed seventh with a time of 14:26; and Andrell Williams, 20th in 16:01. The 4x400 relay team placed 10th with a time of 5:22. In the field events, Danielle Tapaha placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 13’4”; Kalei Long, 13th with 12’11”; and Chantelle Gaddy, 22nd with 11’6”. In the discus, Jamie Mendell placed 11th with a throw of 66’; Karen Hernandez, 17th with 60’8”; and Chelsea John, 35th with 51’4”. In the shot put, Chelsea John claimed top prize with a toss of 32’6’; Jamie Mendell, fifth with 30’3”; and April Lester, seventh with 29’8”. Individual results for the Holbrook boys follow. In the 110 hurdles, Rex Self placed sixth with a time of 17.67; and McKay Tenney, 12th with 19.14. In the 100 meter dash, Mathew Irwin placed 30th in a time of 12.91; and James Bitsue, 36th in 13.34. In the 200 meter dash, Medorick Graham placed 36th in a time of 27.77; Clint Alex, 41st, 29.10; and Josh Hatch, 44th in 29.65. In the 400 meter run, Rex Self placed 21st in 59.71; Terrance Tsosie, 41st in 1:05; and Josh Hatch, 43rd in 1:07. In the 800 meter run, Clint Alex placed 37th in a time of 2:44; and Nolvin John, 38th in 2:47. In the 1600 meter run, Nathaniel Manygoats placed 31st in a time of 5:28; Jackie Frank, 32nd in 5:28; and Adrian Thomas, 33rd in 5:31. In the 3200 meter run, Nolvin John placed 22nd in a time of 12:14. The 4x800 relay team placed 12th with a time of 9:51. In field events, Rex Self placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 5’10”. In the long jump, Rex Self placed 13th in the long jump with a distance of 17’3”; Matt Irwin, 15th with 16’9”; and James Bitsue, 30th with 14’5”. In the discus, Olin Jones placed fifth with a throw of 114’11”; Morty Jim, 27th with 94’4”; and Dean Shirley, 47th with 72’9”. In the shot put, Morty Jim placed 18th with a toss of 36’11”; Olin Jones, 21st with 35’11”; and James Bitsue, 47th with 27’8”. The track teams will compete today (March 19) at the Snowflake Qualifier. Following that they will have some time off for spring break and will resume on Friday, April 4, with a meet in Safford.
