Snowflake’s Lobos Go 2-1 In Busy Week On The DiamondMarch 19th, 2008
By Greg Perkins The Lobos picked up two wins against just one loss last week, but more important, one of those wins was their conference opener. Snowflake started the week on a sour note, suffering a 10-7 home field loss to Window Rock. Utilizing some younger pitchers, Coach Aaron Huish’s squad gave up a three-run lead in the final two innings. One run in the bottom of the first got the game started on the right foot, but when the Scouts scored twice in the top of the second they showed they came to play. The Lobos answered with two in the home half of the second, but three more by the Scouts in the third gave the visitors a 4-3 lead. That lead held up until the bottom of the fifth, where Snowflake was able to overtake Window Rock with two runs. Two more in the sixth appeared to give Snowflake a big enough lead, but the Scouts didn’t back down and tied the game in the top of the seventh at 7-7. After holding Snowflake, the Scouts scored three in the top of the eighth to get the three-run win. Snowflake had 10 hits, but made five errors and left nine on base, which hurt the cause. “Give credit to Window Rock; they are not a bad team and they were able to beat us. We did pitch some young pitchers trying to save our arms for later in the season, but they still played well,” said Coach Huish. Trevor Reddick went one for one at the plate. Tyler Byars was two for three with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Cody Hoopes went one for three, doubled and picked up an RBI. Nick Reidhead was one for three with an RBI and scored once. Blake Peterson went one for three. Logan Rogers went one for four with a double, an RBI, stole three bases and scored a run. Kyle Larson was one for four, scored a run and stole a base. Robby Martindale went one for four and scored. Cody Overley went one for four with a walk and stole a base. Chase Jones walked and scored a run. Byars took the loss on the mound, working just one inning. He faced 10 batters, gave up three runs, none earned, on one hit with two walks and had one strike out. Reidhead started the game with a no deci-sion. He faced 22 batters, gave up four runs, one earned, on four hits with four strike outs and two walks. Overley also pitched one inning, faced 10 batters and gave up three runs, one earned, with one hit, three walks and had two strike outs. Window Rock 022 000 33 10 Snowflake 120 022 00 7 The Lobos returned to the win column last Thursday with a 14-8 road win at St. Johns. A five-run second inning and four runs in the seventh were enough to offset three St. Johns runs in the third and consistent scoring with runs in the fourth through seventh innings. Fourteen seemed to be the key number for the Lobos as they had 14 runs on 14 hits and left 14 runners stranded on base. They made seven errors in the game. Reddick picked up the win working three innings. He faced 19 batters, gave up five runs, one earned, with four hits, five walks and two strike outs. Tarrin Tanner also worked three innings, facing 16 batters. He gave up three runs, one earned, with three hits and had five strike outs. At the plate Martindale went three for five with a home run, two RBIs, scored twice and stole a base. Reidhead went two for four with three RBIs and scored a run. Tanner helped himself, going one for two, scored a run and had an RBI. Larson went one for two and scored twice. Jones went one for two and scored. Overley went two for five with a triple, an RBI and scored twice. Hoopes went two for five with a double, three runs scored, an RBI and stole a base. Rogers was one for three, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI. Byars went one for four, stole a base and scored. Reddick went zero for two with a sacrifice. Round Valley 400 002 2 8 Snowflake 210 146 x 14 “We had a lot of hits in the last two games. We have been able to put the ball in play, and put pressure on the defense. The guys are continuing to work hard heading into conference play. We expect tough games this week against Winslow and Holbrook, so hopefully we can head to our spring break with some momentum,” added Coach Huish. After hosting Alchesay on Tuesday, the Lobos will head to Winslow today (March 19), then host Hol-brook on Friday, March 21. After a week off for spring break they face the Roadrunners again, this time on Friday, March 28, in Holbrook.
