HHS Track Teams Compete In SaffordApril 9th, 2008
By Greg Perkins Holbrook’s track and field teams saw their first action since spring break at the highly competitive Safford Invitational meet on April 4. With 20 teams in the event, mostly from 2A and 3A divisions, the Road-runners had a good opportunity to see how they stack up against other teams in the state. Morenci took the team title in the girls’ division with 89 points, followed closely by Benson with 85 and Safford with 79. Fountain Hills placed fourth with 50 and Snowflake rounded out the top five with 48 points. Holbrook placed 14th with 14 team points. Safford won the boys’ division with 142 points. Snowflake placed second with 95, followed by Sa-huarita with 48, Thatcher, 47, and Show Low, 44. Holbrook was 17th with nine team points. Individual results for the Holbrook girls follow. In the 100 meter dash, Kalei Long placed 32nd in 14.72; Tess McGee, 34th in 14.95; and Chantelle Gaddy, 39th in 15.42. In the 200 meter dash, Danielle Tapaha placed 18th in 29.94; Kalei Long, 29th in 30.87; and Chantelle Gaddy, 40th in 32.49. In the 400 meter dash, Danielle Tapaha place 16th in 1:10; ReAnna Chee, 32nd in 1:15; and Tess McGee, 33rd in 1:15. In the 800 meter run, April Lester placed 16th in 2:52; ReAnna Chee, 17th in 2:53; and Shannon Jones, 35th in 3:16. In the 1600 meter run, Valdena John placed 28th with a time of 6:39; and Andrell Williams, 43rd in 7:24. In the 3200 meter run, Valdena John place 10th with a time of 13:53; and Andrell Williams, 21st in 15:49. In the 100 meter hurdles, Jennifer Basaldua placed 13th with a time of 19.55. In the 300 meter hurdles, Jennifer Basaldua placed 27th in 1:08. The girls’ 4x100 meter relay team placed 10th with a time of 58.50. In the shot put, Chelsea Long placed second with a throw of 32’7”; April Lester, third with 30’8.5”; and Jamie Mendell, 13th with 27’1”. In the discus, Chelsea John placed 16th with a toss of 63’10”; Jamie Mendell, 17th with 62’7”; and Karen Hernandez, 32nd with 55’2”. In the long jump, Danielle Tapaha placed 13th with a distance of 13’3”; and Kalei Long, 25th with 11’8”. Individual results for the Holbrook boys follow. In the 100 meter dash, Rex Self placed 39th with a time of 13.27; Josh Hatch, 45th in 13.79; and Colin Larry, 47th in 15.04. In the 200 meter dash, Josh Hatch placed 44th in 28.41; and Clint Alex, 45th in 29.06. In the 400 meter dash, Terrance Tsosie placed 37th in 1:03; and Clint Alex, 44th in 1:06. In the 800 meter run, Adrian Thomas placed 20th in 2:22; and Terrance Tsosie, 39th in 2:34. In the 1600 meter run, Adrian Thomas placed 10th with a time of 5:06; Jackie Frank, 29th in 5:29; and Nathaniel Manygoats, 30th in 5:32. In the 3200 meter run, Nathaniel Manygoats placed seventh with a time of 11:07; and Adrian Thomas, 12th in 11:25. In the 300 meter hurdles, McKay Tenney placed 19th with a time of 48.22; Ryan Williams, 22nd in 50.66; and Josh Hatch, 24th in 51.78. In the 110 meter hurdles, Rex Self placed fourth with a time of 17.31; McKay Tenney, 16th in 18.44; and Ryan Williams, 22nd in 20.03. In the high jump, Rex Self placing fifth, clearing 6’; and McKay Tenney, 19th with 5’4”. In the long jump, Rex Self placed 19th with a leap of 16’5”; and Zach Halwood, 35th with 13’4”. In the shot put, Morty Jim placed fifth with a toss of 43’9”; Olin Jones, 25th with 36’9”; and Colin Larry, 39th with 31’10”. In the discus, Morty Jim was 10th with a throw of 108’4”; Olin Jones, 15th with 101’5”; and Zach Hal-wood, 41st with 65’3”. After running in the Snowflake Co-Ed Relays today (April 9), the Holbrook teams will compete at the Blue Ridge Invitational meet on Friday, April 11, in Lakeside.
