Wildcats Earn Fifth Place At SHS Invitational Track Meet

   Joseph City’s track teams continued to gear up for the state track meet with competition at the Snow-flake Invitational Meet last Friday. The Wildcats fared very well, placing fifth in the 11-team boys’ field, while the Lady Wildcats placed eighth among 10 teams.
   Blue Ridge earned the boys’ title with 121 points. Snowflake was second with 114, followed by Round Valley with 78, Show Low, 73, and Joseph City, 72.
   The girls’ title also went to Blue Ridge with 145.5 points, followed by Payson with 113.5, Snowflake, 97.5, Round Valley, 64, Show Low, 61.5, Alchesay, 51, Window Rock, 44, and Joseph City, 25.
   Individual results for the Joseph City girls follow.
   In the 100 meter dash, Lindsey Larson placed seventh with a time of 14.35; and Natalie Griffith, 16th in 14.81.
   In the 200 meter dash, Lindsey Larson placed eighth with a time of 30.42; Natalie Griffith, 20th in 33.15; and Mackenzie Fields, 22nd in 33.15.
   In the 400 meter dash, Lindsey Larson placed fifth with a time of 1:08; and Natalie Griffith, eighth in 1:15.
   In the 800 meter run, Victoria Lavarnway was 15th with a time of 2:59; and Tonina Toney, 17th in 3:03.
   In the 1600 meter run, Tonina Toney placed 16th with a time of 7:14.
   In the 300 meter hurdles, Jessi Rush placed second with a time of 50.66.
   In the 100 meter hurdles, Jessi Rush was third with a time of 17.98; and Megan Johnstun, 12th in 21.46.
   In field events, Megan Johnstun placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 4’10”; and Mackenzie Fields, 10th with 4’2”.
   In the long jump, Megan Johnstun placed seventh with a distance of 12’5”; and Victoria Lavarnway, 18th with 8’5”.
   In the shot put, Kaylee Pugh placed 13th with a toss of 25’2.5”; and Tonina Toney, 17th with 23’10”.
   In the discus, Kaylee Pugh placed 15th with a throw of 58’8”.

   In the 100 meter dash, Zach Baldwin placed seventh with a time of 12.05; and Sean DeWitt, 16th in 12.31.
   In the 200 meter dash, Stephen Solomon placed sixth with a time of 24.52; William Griffith, 10th in 25.16; and Zach Baldwin, 13th in 25.29.
   In the 400 meter dash, Chance Fish placed 20th with a time of 1:00; and William Bushman, 30th in 1:18.
   In the 800 meter run, Tracy Poudrier placed fifth with a time of 2:12; AJ Smith, eighth in 2:14; and Eric Aurora, 14th in 2:21.
   In the 1600 meter run, AJ Smith placed fifth with a time of 4:57; and Eric Aurora, eighth in 5:04.
   In the 300 meter hurdles, Stephen Solomon placed eighth with a time of 44.54; Cory Thellmann, 11th in 45.85; Sean DeWitt, 21st in 51.07; and Justin Parisot, 22nd in 53.19.
   In the 110 meter hurdles, Cory Thellmann placed second with a time of 15.41.
   The Wildcats placed second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.60, fifth in the 4x400 meter re-lay in 3:48 and third in the 4x800 meter relay in 9:16.
   In the high jump, Cory Thellmann placed second, clearing 6’.
   In the long jump William Griffith placed sixth with a distance of 17’5”; Dalton Hughes, 11th with 15’8”; and Justin Parisot, 17th with 13’1”.
   In the triple jump, Cory Thellmann placed second with a distance of 38’10.5”; Tracy Poudrier, sixth with 34’10”; and William Bushman, eighth with 30’2.5”.
   In the shot put, Spencer Baldwin placed eighth with a toss of 39’11”; and Chris Coppinger, 18th with 33’11”.
   In the discus, Spencer Baldwin placed third with a throw of 118’5”.
   The Wildcats will compete in their last large meet of the season, the Winslow Invitational, on Friday, April 25. The state meet is scheduled on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, in Mesa.
