Lady Wildcats Head To State As Top Seed From The NorthMay 3rd, 2008
By Greg Perkins Joseph City’s Lady Wildcats won their final two regular season games by a combined score of 56-0 with a pair of 28-0 shutouts in a doubleheader contest at St. Michael last week. In the first game those 28 runs were produced on just 14 hits. Ivorie Cochran picked up another win in the circle with 10 strike outs, and was also tough at the plate, going three for four including a single, a dou-ble and an over the fence home run. Tahlisa Blosser and Kristjana Carlisle both went three for three, and Cassie Pugh was two for two with a single and a double. Brianna Massey helped out with a double, and Shealynn Hill and Morgan McLaugh-lin both singled. In the second game, Megan Poudrier pitched a no hitter and the Lady Cats used 17 hits to score the 28 runs. Jaci Penrod, Cochran, Poudrier and Amber Sorgen all had three hits in the game. Shelby Fish picked up a pair of singles, Morgan McLaughlin doubled, and Chante Cline and Chevaun Spurlock each had a single. “The team played well, even though the competition wasn't much. The team has worked hard all season, and we are really looking forward to the games at the state tournament,” said Coach Teddi Baird. The Lady Wildcats head to the playoffs as the No. 1 seed from the North Conference. They will face the fourth best team from the South in the first round at 4:45 p.m. today (May 2) on Field No. 3 at Rose Mof-ford Sports Complex, located at 9833 N. 25th Ave. in Phoenix. With a win they would see either West No. 2 Valley Lutheran or East No. 3 Duncan at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday on field No. 5.
