Lady Roadrunners Open Softball Season This WeekBy Greg Perkins Head Coach Monty Flack and his assistants, Scott Baker, Dale Larsen and Michelle Bradley, have been putting this year’s version of the Lady Roadrunner softball team through practices in the past two weeks preparing for the upcoming season, which actually got under way on Monday and Tuesday. Holbrook hosted Chino Valley on Monday and traveled to Payson on Tuesday. On Thursday, March 5, the Lady Birds are scheduled to host Snowflake. Players on the varsity at this point in the season are Kathalena Manygoats, Elena Saxton, Meagan Newton-Pender, Rietta Wagoner, Corina Gillespie, Nicole Baldwin, Emilee Candelaria, Sandi Stanton, Brooke Nowell, PJ Gabaldon and Melanie Anaya. Those who have made the junior varsity roster include Shalisha Shorty, Autumn Wilson, Euphemia Roanhorse, Rebecca Valero, Madisen Pate, Janecia Nez, Kellin Bakurza, Aaren Billie, Shantina Kinlicheenie, Cherokee Yellowhair, Tiffany Duvall, Amanda Jensen, Maria Garcia, Toni Craig, Brooke Ferniza, Macie Williams and Denise Singer. Next week the Roadrunners will host Blue Ridge on Tuesday, then travel to River Valley for a tournament on Friday and Saturday. Holbrook’s home games will begin at 3:30 p.m. during the month of March, and will move back to 4 p.m. on weekdays for the remainder of the season.
