Young SHS Lady Lobos Look Forward To Softball SeasonBy Greg Perkins Fourteen players have made the varsity roster for Coach Joni Austin’s Lady Lobo softball program. Assisting her this year will be Cody Thomas and Loren Yellowhair. The junior varsity coach is Lisa Flake. Underclassmen dominate the roster with only four seniors on the squad, including left fielder Charece Larson, first baseman and pitcher Nicole Baldwin, catcher Olivia Lewis, and third baseman and pitcher Molly Orton. Juniors on the team are infielder and pitcher Brooklyn Rogers, infielder/outfielder Kelcie Brimhall, shortstop and second baseman Tessa Ellsworth, and catcher and utility player Dusti Gibson. Sophomores include utility player and pitcher Reagon Godfrey, outfielder Paij Black, and outfielder/infielder Tory Gorman. Freshmen on the team are pitcher and first baseman Mikayla Austin, catcher and infielder Lisha Titus, and pitcher and first baseman Natalie Elkins. “We had a good showing in our scrimmage against Hayden,” said Coach Austin. “Obviously, we couldn’t keep score, but we were pleased with the outcome. We are a young team, but we have depth and are looking to have a good season. We have some good returning leadership that should help our newcomers.” After playing at Holbrook on Thursday, March 5, the Lady Lobos are scheduled to play in Globe on Tuesday, March 10, then host Winslow on Thursday, March 12, and St. Johns on Friday, March 13.
