Wildcats Take Sixth In Northland Prep ClassicMarch 12th, 2009
By Greg Perkins Joseph City’s track and field athletes competed in their first meet of the season at the Northland Prep Academy Classic held indoors at Northern Arizona University on March 2. The boys’ team placed sixth in the large field with a score of 29, with several different athletes earning team points in their respective events. Snowflake won the boys’ title with 102 team points. Blue Ridge was second with 54, followed by Show Low in third with 49. In the 1600 meter run, AJ Smith placed 10th with a time of 5:12; Eric Aurora, 14th in 5:16; and Daniel Bushman, 47th in 6:07. In the 400 meter run, Jacob Burt placed 14th with a time of 58.79; and Luke DeWitt, 33rd in 1:03. In the 60 meter hurdles, Cory Thellmann placed third with a time of 8.54; and Dallin Baldwin, 18th in 11.54. In the 60 meter dash, Stephen Solomon placed fifth with a time of 7.46; Zack Baldwin, sixth in 7.53; and Dalton Hughes, 24th in 8.01. In the 800 meter dash, Tracy Poudrier placed eighth overall with a time of 2:13. In the 200 meter dash, Stephen Solomon placed fourth with a time of 23.92; Cory Thellmann, 10th in 24.75; and Justin Parisot 32nd in 27.17. The Wildcats’ 4x400 relay team placed seventh with a time of 3:53. In the high jump, Cory Thellmann placed second, clearing a height of 6’4”; and Dallin Baldwin was 16th with 5’0”. In the long jump, Dalton Hughes placed 13th with a distance of 17’4”; and Justin Parisot, 28th with 15’1”. In the triple jump, Luke DeWitt placed 17th with a jump of 34’6”; and Tracy Poudrier, 18th with 34’3”. In the shot put, Spencer Baldwin placed second with a toss of 44’0”; and Zack Baldwin, 17th with 36’2”. Blue Ridge won the girls’ title with 103 team points. Show Low was second with 57.40 and Chino Valley placed third with 54. The Lady Wildcats failed to score any team points. In the 1600 meter run, Annelie Hansen placed 21st with a time of 6:58. In the 60 meter hurdles, Megan Johnstun placed 16th with time of 12.69; Chalet Hunsaker, 17th in 12.71; and Linsey Wouters, 18th in 12.98. In the 60 meter dash, Shelby Fish placed 10th with a time of 9.04; and Natalie Griffith, 12th in 9.12. In the 800 meter run, Tonina Toney placed 22nd with a time of 3:06; Annelie Hansen was 27th in 3:13; and Victoria Lavarnway, 28th in 3:14. In the 200 meter run, Linsey Wouters placed 28th with a time of 32.34. In the high jump, Megan Johnstun placed ninth with a height of 4’4”. In the shot put, Kaylee Pugh placed 13th with a distance of 24’5”. Next up for Joseph City will be a meet today (March 11) at St. Johns. On Saturday, March 14, they will be in the Valley to compete in the Bourgade Catholic Invitational meet.
