SHS Lady Lobos Defeat Globe, St. Johns, But Lose To WinslowMarch 18th, 2009
By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos sandwiched two close wins around a lopsided loss in the three games they played last week. On Tuesday, Snowflake played host to Globe and played very well in a defensive battle, picking up a 4-2 road win. The Lady Lobos drew first blood with three runs in the top of the third, then added an insurance run they wouldn’t need in the sixth inning. Charece Larson went one for four with an RBI. Mikayla Austin was one for three, as was Tory Gorman, who also had an RBI and scored a run. Nicole Baldwin had a nice game, going two for three with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Tessa Ellsworth was three for three and scored twice. Molly Orton went one for four. Austin picked up the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings. She gave up just two runs on one hit with three strike outs and walked three. The Lady Lobos collected eight hits in the game and made three errors. Snowflake 003 001 0 4 Globe 000 110 0 2 On Thursday, the Lady Lobos returned home to host Winslow’s Lady Bulldogs, who won the game 21-2 in five innings. Winslow scored three runs in the first and added three more in the second, but it was in the third inning when the Lady Bulldogs blew the game open, scoring 10 runs. Snowflake finally got on the board in the fourth and fifth innings, but the damage had been done. Winslow pounded out 23 hits and made five errors, while Snowflake managed just four hits and made nine errors in the loss. Paij Black went one for two with an RBI. Brooklyn Rogers scored a run. Gorman was one for one. Kelcie Brimhall went two for three with an RBI. Ellsworth was one for three, and Orton scored one of the two runs. Reagon Godfrey pitched 12/3 innings, giving up three runs on three hits with one strike out. Rogers pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up seven runs, all earned, on four hits with two walks. Austin pitched 12/3 innings, giving up six runs, three earned, on three hits with two strike outs and four walks. Orton pitched two full innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits with one strike out and one walk. Winslow 33 10 41 21 Snowflake 00 0 11 2 On Friday, the Lady Lobos returned to the win column with a hard fought, 5-4 win over visiting St. Johns. The Lady Lobos scored all five of their runs in the first two innings, then held on to get the one-run win. St. Johns made a game of it with three runs in the third inning and pulled within one in the fifth inning, but that was as close as the Lady Redskins would get. In the circle, Larson worked all seven innings, giving up four runs, just two earned, on four hits with nine strike outs and four walks. Larson went one for four at the plate and scored a run. Austin was two for three with a double and a run scored. Gorman scored a run. Baldwin went one for three with an RBI and scored twice. Ellsworth was one for three and scored a run. After playing in Window Rock on Tuesday, the Lady Lobos will host Benson on Thursday, March 19, then take some time off for spring break. They return to the field on Tuesday, March 31, when they will host Holbrook.
