Lady Bulldogs Are 2-1 With Win Over Snowflake, Loss To Payson

    The Winslow Lady Bulldogs split two road games late last week, defeating the Snowflake Lady Lobos 21-2 last Thursday, then suffering their first loss of the softball season on Saturday to Payson, 2-1. Both were non-conference contests.  
    The Snowflake game was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
    Winslow starter Jennifer Yazzie picked up the win, allowing only one hit and two walks in two innings of work. Mallory Smith worked the other three innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a walk.
    The Lady Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, expanded it to 6-0 in the second and to 16-0 after three innings. The margin was 20-0 when Snowflake scored in the bottom of the fourth inning and 21-1 when the Lady Bulldogs scored their final run.
    Winslow was led at the plate by Mireya Ullibarri, who was five for five. Mariah Guzman was two for two. Ar-ianna Huerta was four for six. Yazzie was three for five. Felicia Nagle was two for three. Kyli Parsons was two for four. Smith and Gabrielle Stacey were each one for four. Bernice Gover was one for five.
    The loss to Payson left the Lady Bulldogs with a 2-1 record for the season going into the 3C’s/Bojo’s Tourna-ment today (March 20).
    Lady Longhorn pitcher Hagen held Winslow to just six hits and one earned run. Jennifer Yazzie took the loss, allowing two runs, one of which was earned, on three hits and three walks in 31/3 innings. Mallory Smith worked 21/3 innings and allowed no runs on just two hits.
    The Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a single by Ullibarri, a stolen base, a passed ball and a ground out.
    Payson scored its runs in the bottom of the third on a walk, a single by Heron and two errors.
    Winslow managed only three more base runners on two hits and an error until the contest was over.
    Ullibarri led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with two hits in three trips. Nagle, Yazzie, Smith and Gover were all one for three.
